“Sedicidocici” was born in 2005 when four entrepreneurs from the Gruppo Giovani Imprenditori in Pordenone participated in the Start Cup 2005, an innovative business ideas competition sponsored by the CRUP Foundation and the University of Udine. The first winning move of the team was to choose a partner of excellence, which they sought and found in the CRO of Aviano. The CRO (Oncological Referral Centre) of Aviano (PN) is one of eight Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalisation and Health Care (IRCCS) active in the field of oncology in Italy, and is charged by the State with designing and carrying out research into improving awareness around the causes of cancer to prevent, diagnose and treat tumours using innovative techniques.

Our mission

Right from the start, the CRO was very cooperative, sharing some of its research proposals with the four entrepreneurs. They evaluated the market prospects of the projects taken into consideration so as to be able to work constructively on a viable product.

After identifying their business idea, it was essential to coordinate the roles of the researchers at CRO and the four industrialists, and the resulting synergy allowed them to develop a novel instrumental platform for the combined evaluation of coagulation and platelet function in hemostasis and thrombosis: the Smart Clot. Smart Clot performs a comprehensive test by the assessment of an individual thrombogenic potential in baseline conditions or “under therapeutic ” treatment.

The idea came third both in the final of Start Cup in Udine and in the National Innovation Awards (PNI) in 2005. The National Innovation Awards is a competition that brings together the winners of business plan competitions organised at local level by Italian universities that subscribe to the initiative and awards the best start-up technology of the year. The location of the PNI in 2005 was Padua, and the ceremony was held on 16 December.

Following this important result, SediciDodici was founded by four young entrepreneurs and named after the date in which the national prize was won.
